A vice-president of the Trump Organization, Michael Cohen spent twelve years as personal counsel to former President Donald Trump. However, his career soon took a dramatic turn. On December 12, 2018, he was sentenced to three years in federal prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine, all as a punishment which came after he pled guilty to tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign-finance violations. He was subsequently disbarred from practicing law in the State of New York on February 26, 2019.

Joe Tacopina serves as the personal legal counsel for former President Donald Trump, providing representation in a criminal case in New York that pertains to payments made to adult film actress, Stormy Daniels. (See Part 1 and Part 2.)

Born in Brooklyn, New York to Italian immigrants, Joe Tacopina’s father, Cosmo, originated from Rome, while his mother, Josephine, hailed from Montelepre in the province of Palermo. While Cosmo made a living by selling packing boxes, Josephine worked as an accountant with the New York City Fire Department. Tacopina spent his childhood and adolescent years in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood and completed his education from Poly Prep.

The Trump Trials: A Look at the Judge

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted with 34 felony charges by the New York County District Attorney’s Office. The charges allege that Trump purchased damaging information about himself, subsequently falsifying business records in order to hide those acquisitions. The case will be overseen by the Hon. Juan Manuel Merchan, an acting justice for the New York County Supreme Court.
